Entry level software engineer resume template
Without years of employment, your projects are the evidence. This template puts a compact tech-stack block and two or three real projects above the fold, then education, internships and open-source contributions — the order engineering hiring managers actually scan.
The template opens straight in your workspace — even if you have never saved it before.
Section order that works for juniors
Recency matters less than relevance when your career is two years old.
- Header: name, city, email, GitHub and portfolio links
- Tech stack: languages, frameworks, databases, tooling — plain text
- Projects: two or three, each with stack, your role and an outcome
- Education: degree, institution, graduation date, relevant coursework
- Experience: internships, working-student roles, tutoring
Writing project bullets that convince
Name the problem, the stack and the measurable result: users served, latency reduced, test coverage reached, deployment time cut. "Built a web app with React" says nothing; "Built a booking app in React and Postgres used by 120 club members, cutting manual scheduling to zero" says everything.
ATS details juniors get wrong
Skill rating bars, icon-only contact rows and a two-column sidebar are the three most common parse killers in developer templates. This layout uses one column, real headings and text-based skills, so an applicant tracking system recovers every term.
Frequently asked questions
- How long should a junior developer resume be?
- One page. Two pages at entry level signals padding rather than depth.
- Do side projects count as experience?
- Yes, if they shipped and you can describe the outcome. Put them under Projects, not under Experience.
- Should I list every language I have touched?
- No. List what you could be interviewed on today, and split it into confident and familiar.
