Best Metrics to Put on a Sales Resume
Sales is the most numbers-driven hire in any company — a sales resume without metrics reads as a resume without proof. But which numbers? Hiring managers weight some metrics far above others, and the right choice depends on your motion (SMB volume vs enterprise, hunter vs farmer). Here is the ranked list, by role type.
The template opens straight in your workspace — even if you have never saved it before.
The core four (always include)
These travel across every sales role:
- Quota attainment — annual % and consistency ('112%, 118%, 105% across 3 years')
- Revenue closed — $ booked, and your ranking ('#2 of 28 reps')
- Deal size — average contract value, especially if you grew it
- Pipeline generated — self-sourced % if you're a hunter
Efficiency metrics (differentiate you)
These show how you sell, not just what you closed:
- Sales cycle length — 'cut average cycle from 9 to 6 months'
- Win rate — competitive win % against named rivals
- Conversion rates — meeting-to-opportunity, opportunity-to-close
- Activity-to-output ratio — only if exceptional (e.g. half the calls, same revenue)
Account & expansion metrics (for farmers and leaders)
Critical for account management and CS-adjacent roles:
- Net revenue retention (NRR) — the SaaS gold standard ('118% NRR across $4M book')
- Renewal rate and churn saved
- Upsell/cross-sell revenue as % of book
- Logo count and named accounts (Dropbox, Siemens — names are proof)
Before / after: see the difference
Weak: "Exceeded sales targets and managed key accounts in the DACH region." Strong: "Closed $1.9M ARR against a $1.5M quota (127%) across 14 enterprise accounts; ranked #1 of 12 DACH AEs; grew average deal size 34% YoY." Why it works: Four metrics in one bullet: attainment, absolute revenue, ranking and trend. 'Exceeded targets' without the number is unverifiable; 127% against a named quota is a fact a hiring manager can check in references.
Frequently asked questions
- What if my company won't share exact revenue figures?
- Use relative metrics: percentages, rankings and ratios are rarely confidential. 'Top 10% of 50 reps', '114% of quota', '#1 in EMEA new logo acquisition' all quantify without absolute numbers. If even those are restricted, quantify inputs you own: meetings booked, RFPs won, regions opened.
- Can I check my resume against these rules for free?
- Yes. Paste your resume text (or import the file) into KlarCV and the built-in ATS check scores parseability, keyword match and bullet strength — with concrete fix suggestions for each issue it finds. No account required during the test phase.
